The Westmont Fire Company and the Camden County Hero Scholarship Fund remembers the solemn anniversary of the line of duty death of Chief Edward Turner of the Westmont Fire Company No. 1, who made the ultimate sacrifice on this day, July 12, 1960.
On July 12, 1960, Chief Edward Turner was at a smoky working house fire at 91 Emerald Avenue. While performing his duties as Chief on the fire ground he suffered a heart attack. He was immediately transported to the hospital but regretfully pronounced dead upon arrival.
Sadly, Chief Turner became the first Westmont Firefighter in our Company’s history to make the ultimate sacrifice to this community in the line of duty. |
