By Captain/EMT Dan Devitt
May 25, 2019

At 1046 Hours Station 15-1 and BLS 1557 were dispatched to 24 Reeve Avenue for a reported dwelling fire. Battalion 15 (Captain Dan Devitt) responded and was advised that Police were reporting a deck on fire at that address. Squirt 15-1 radioed Battalion 15 and advised a visible column of smoke from the Firehouse.

Battalion 15 arrived on location and found heavy fire conditions to the rear on the deck with extension into the residence. Battalion 15 transmitted the “All Hands” signaling a working fire. Collingswood Squad 16 and Haddonfield Squad 14 were added to the assignment. Squirt 15-1 responded under the command of Captain John Young with a staffing of four and upon arrival stretched an 1 ¾” hand line for fire suppression.

Squirt 15-1 obtained their own water supply from Virginia and Reeve. Squirt 15-1 knocked down the fire on the deck and exterior of the residence before transitioning from exterior operations to interior operations. Tower Ladder 15 responded under the command of Lieutenant Matt Medes and upon arrival split the crew and started to place ground ladders around the dwelling and initiating a primary search of the residence.

Squirt 15-1 reported fire conditions in the kitchen area of the 1st floor. Squad 16 arrived on location and assisted Tower Ladder 15 with a primary search of the 2nd floor. An additional hand line was stretched and operated in the rear of the residence. At the 10 minute mark Battalion 15 reported two hand lines operating with companies making good progress.

Interior companies reported the primary search was negative and were starting a secondary. Engine 1512 arrived and assisted companies with overhaul on the deck area and rear of the 1st floor. Squad 14 arrived and staged Division A as the RIT Team. Companies opened up and with no further extension found, Battalion 15 placed the fire under control at 1104 hours.

Squad 14 then went inside and relieved the crew of Squirt 15-1 on the interior of the residence. Cherry Hill Rehab 13 arrived and set up Rehab operations out front of the residence. Companies remained on location for overhaul and equipment restoration. Once the Haddon Township Fire Marshal was completed the initial investigation, Companies were demobilized and returned to quarters.
